July 4

Our ward had a pancake breakfast and one of the games was to slurp jello through a straw-I failed miserable. GAG REFLEX!!

Kaden got a new bike, although he has insisted on riding his 12 incher!! The other day Kaden left the 12 incher outside behind Devin's truck and it got run over:( So I told him he could ride his larger brand new bike, but he only wanted the 12 incher so he told me he was gonna put the new bike behind Devin's truck again so it would get run over and he could get a new smaller bike.
I took the kids to the Orchard on the 4th. Devin had to work that day, so I decided we were going to try and have fun by ourselves anyway!

Summer time Part 1

I know it has been 4ever since I have posted-but who has time in the summer to post anything. I think I will just recap the past few months with pictures and snipets of the things we have done as a family.

This is Morgans 1st grade class field day back in May. I always loved field day, my fifth grade teacher wore a wig she ran an obstacle course. I just remember wishing that her wig would fall off. She was one of my least favorite teachers.

Devin's youngest sister Janelle and her husband Jeff joined us the end of May. It was a quick trip but Jeff helped Devin in the backyard. I would like to call it the mud pit!! It rained almost the whole time, this was the soggiest may ever!!

After our crazy May, Paige hitched a ride with Jeff and Janelle to Utah. This has been a tradition for Paige for 4 years now. All of Devins family is in Utah so she loves to visit cousins!!

14th Wedding Anniversary

For our 14th wedding anniversary Dev and I spent the night at a B&B in Estes Park. We haven't been away together by ourselves for a long time!! It was so nice to just be like we were without children, even if only for 24 hours. We went and ate at a little restaurant that had dollar bills stapled all throughout the lobby and bar. We laughed, ate ice cream, cotton candy, and laughed some more. The next morning our Host and Hostess served an AWESOME!!!! breakfast:) Our first course was this yummy fruit and then Eggs Benedict. What a treat, I know I didn't want to leave. Even the little dear was trying to get in on the food.
Love you Devs, here's to another 14 years!

Erie Police Department swears in new officer

After operating an officer short since March, the Erie Police Department is back at capacity this week following the swearing in of Officer Devin Johns.

The search for a new officer began in April, and Lt. Lee Mathis this week said the department received approximately 60-70 applications from qualified parties.

“We got more, but I’m only counting the ones who were qualified,” said Mathis this week.

Amongst friends, family and his new family at the Erie Police Department, Johns took his oath to protect and serve his community on Thursday, June 4, in the Erie town board chambers.

Johns’ smile as his wife pinned his shiny new badge on him was bright, and it was no wonder — Johns had been down several career paths before he opted to go for his dream of joining the law enforcement profession.

Though Johns said he had always been interested in police work, he first worked with his father-in-law building furniture and started his own concrete repair business before choosing to enroll in Arapahoe Community College’s Police Academy program.

According to a biography compiled by Erie Police Chief John Hall, Johns worked diligently at his police academy night classes for about 10 months gaining eligibility to become a peace officer.

For Johns, the investment was worth the pay-out.

“To be here is an honor,” Johns told the crowd gathered in the board’s chambers on Thursday.

Aside from police academy certification, those applying to the Erie Police Department have an extensive battery of tests and interviews they must pass to be eligible for hire.

According to Mathis, applicants must: complete the application; undergo a physical fitness test; be interviewed, as well as ranked, by an oral board; undergo an interview with Chief Hall; submit to a psychological evaluation; take a doctor’s physical; undergo drug screening; and, are subject to an integrity interview on their personal background with a sergeant.

It was Johns’ ability to communicate and his personality that led him to stand apart from the other candidates, Mathis said.

“(What stood out was) his ability to communicate both verbally and in writing,” Mathis said. “And, he comes across as a really personable guy, which is a good attribute to have as a police officer.”

Johns is filling the officer vacancy that occurred after former officer Chad Broder vacated the position in March.

In 2008, Broder was arrested by Greeley police after allegations surfaced he had attempted sexual assault on a suspect in custody, and another charge of sexual contact with a suspect in custody.

According to Greeley police authorities, Broder arrested the woman on Aug. 31, 2008, on suspicion of violating a restraining order.

The woman told police Broder was driving her to the Weld County Jail, allowing her to ride in the front seat, when he stopped his marked patrol car in Greeley and kissed her, released one of her hands from the handcuffs and placed her hand on his crotch.

At that time, Broder was suspended from the Erie department without pay pending the outcome of an investigation by the Greeley Police Department. An internal investigation was also conducted by Erie police.

Mathis reported this week that Broder’s criminal trial has not yet been completed.

Swear In

It is done. I keep saying its the beginning of the end:( He started with the Erie Police Dept this week and was sworn in today. This has been a long process. Devin has wanted to be a police officer since he was a kid. His dream has come true and he is so happy!! I on the other hand am starting to feel the reality of the schedule and him being gone so often(yes it is only the 1st week). I can do this though...I know I can.
He had his mom, dad and brother come as a surprise. He also had a friend from church and a few of his friends from the police academy come out for his swear in. It was nice to have the support of family and friends. Everyone at the department seems really nice.
To Devin I think this whole week has been like Christmas. The department spent over $1300 in all his gear. Devin had to buy the gun himself, which I hate having in the house!

Kaden

I have always wanted to be a mom who wrote down all the funny things my kids said. I have had good intentions-but it doesn't always get put into words:(

Kaden and Morgan spent the night at Grandma Neuffers house on Tuesday. My mom lives on a 10 acre farm that is surrounded by cows, horses, ponies etc. The kids like to take a walk and look at all the different animals. As we were driving up Kaden was telling me about his favorite animals. He didn't pick a dog or a cat, he said, "My favorite animals are cock a doodle doos and clams."
How random!!
How I love this kid!!
